InformationTitleImportant Information: Australia Alphanumeric Sender ID ChangesURL Name000003293-important-information-australia-alphanumeric-sender-ID-changesAnswerThe Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is introducing important new rules that affect how businesses use alphanumeric sender IDs (for example: "ACME", "myGov" or "CityClinic" instead of a mobile number) when sending SMS in Australia. These changes are designed to combat SMS scams, protect consumers and ensure only verified organisations are able to use brand names in the sender field. All businesses sending SMS with alphanumeric sender IDs will need to register their IDs with the ACMA's SMS Sender ID Register. What’s changing? The ACMA will require all alphanumeric sender IDs to be registered in order to send SMS in Australia. The Register will help prevent scam activity by blocking unauthorised or misleading use of brand names.Unregistered sender IDs will be over-stamped (replaced) with "Unverified".SMS sent from Telco's not participating in the register will be blocked.
