1. Identify the recipient with a personalised SMS message

2. Identify yourself

3. Identify the reason they are getting the SMS message

4. Create a valuable offer or something the recipient would really want and make it relevant

5. Add a call to action

6. Don't forget your SMS opt-out mechanism

1. Identify the recipient with a personalised SMS message

With the BurstSMS system you can use a variable to identify the user. When you upload a list or add contacts you have the option to also upload a name. This name can be inserted automatically into the SMS message with the variable [firstname].

Hi [firstname], Chakra Health Spa would like to offer you as a member 50% off your next visit if you bring a friend. Book now 02 3456 7890 Reply STOP to opt-out

Their name will be inserted from the database in place of the variable.

2. Identify yourself

To comply with the SPAM Act you must identify yourself with either the customisable SMS SenderID or within the message. If you would like a reply or would like to use our free automated SMS opt-out system we need to send the message from our number, so the only option is to identify yourself within the message. This is always a good idea anyway.

3. Identify the reason they are getting the message

Text messaging is a very personal medium. People that receive text messages without knowing why get very upset and it will have a serious negative impact on your brand. Tell the recipient why they are getting the SMS message.
